Provincial Minister for Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar directed Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority (SBTA) Secretary Dr Zahid Hasan Ansari to make all the four regional blood banks, which have been built in cooperation with a German bank, operational as soon as possible.

He said this while presiding over a meeting in his office.

Ansari briefed the health minister about the four regional blood banks which have been constructed in Nawabshah, Sukkur, Jamshoro and Karachi and said that latest equipments were supplied by a German bank to smoothly run these centres.

The health minister said, “The health department is interested to run these blood banks with the consultation of reputed non-governmental organisations (NGOs) so that a large number of needy patients, especially Thalassemia patients, may benefit.”

He assured that he would talk to the Sindh chief minister to approve summary regarding appointments of highly trained and technical staff at these blood banks as the health department is considering running the affairs of these blood banks with the consultation of NGOs in public-private partnership mode.

Dahar said that it should also be ensured that the research regarding Thalassemia is done at these regional blood centres in order to provide better and accurate health facilities to the patients.

Dahar ordered to suspend Dr Nazeer Ahmed Rind, son of Ghulam Qadir Rind, who himself made a fake notification of his promotion and transfer. The health minister has also issued an order for a departmental inquiry against the doctor.
