Qandeel Baloch’s death has inspired a wide spectrum of reactions. A lot of people took to social media soon after the Pakistani model, actress, and social media sensation’s death was announced yesterday.
Twitter was full of derogatory remarks about Baloch, her life choices, and her raunchy videos. Many others took to social media to point out how heinous this mentality was, and nothing could ever condone such a blatant act of honour killing.
Popular Indian actor, Gaurav Gera took up his phone to give the haters a fitting response and pay tribute to Qandeel Baloch.
In the video, Gera explains how he first came across Baloch last year. He watched a few of her videos and was soon curious to know more about the Pakistani model.
“I was very shocked because she was bold, she was fearless”, says Gera. The more he found out about her, the more he was left wondering–“how does she do that?” Like all of us, Gera realised that Baloch defied everything that was considered ‘normal’ or traditional.
Despite the horrid comments she got as a reply to her videos and posts, Qandeel Baloch went on. Gera comments: “She knew what she was doing. She grabbed the attention of lakhs of people.”
He also said: “The news has actually shaken me up, because, like I said, I was her fan and I don’t think she deserved this.”
Commenting on Baloch’s killing by her brother in the name of family honour, Gera said,”Where’s the honour? There’s no honour in killing.” Adding that the honour killing epidemic is a social evil that still plagues the Indian subcontinent, he quipped, “Honour killing is stupid.”
