Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, while expressing his anger, directed the Karachi commissioner, and Karachi administrator to clean the city within three days by lifting the garbage accumulated along the roads and in the streets, otherwise face the music.

The chief minister said that he had provided necessary funds to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, District Municipal Corporations (DMCs) and deputy commissioners to clean the city and provide water to the citizens through tankers but “sorry to say nothing has been achieved so far.”

He directed the Karachi commissioner and administrator to get the city clean by lifting garbage from each and every DMC of the city by involving entire machinery and human resources hired for the purpose.

“We have no need of such sanitation and sweeping employees on local bodies who despite drawing salaries do not work,” Shah said and directed the KMC commissioner and administrator to mobile DMCs, deputy commissioners and staff concerned to start cleaning city and get it done within three days.

The KMC and DMCs have a large number of sweeping and sanitation staff and machinery to sweep the city and lift the garbage from collection points to landfill sites, he said.

“The Sindh government keeps providing additional funds to KMC and DMCs for the salaries of their employees and cleanliness of their areas but they are not performing their duties,” he said.

The chief minister said that he has personally visited different areas of city and found heaps of garbage everywhere.

“I am giving you three days and asking everyone (concerned) to start work, clean the city, lift the garbage and report me, otherwise not only I would relieve the concerned officer(s) but would take action against them,” he said.

The chief minister also expressed his dissatisfaction on distribution of free tanker service in the areas facing shortage of water.

“Improve the tanker distribution system. In this city, majority of the people are poor and they cannot afford to purchase water,” he said and directed the commissioner to present him a detailed report.

The chief minister was presiding over a meeting on water and garbage lifting issues toady at CM House. Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro, Principal Secretary to CM Alamuddin Bullo, Additional Secretary (development) Mohammad Waseem, Karachi Commissioner Ejaz Ahmed Khan, Local Government Secretary Baqaullah Unar, Karachi Administrator Laeeq Ahmed, Water Board MD Misbahuddin Farid and others attended the meeting.
