Lack of lifting vehicles with traffic sections of Preedy, Empress Market and Lucky Star has aggravated traffic issues in Saddar and Regal areas.

Though these traffic sections are busy in lifting vehicles and cars parked wrongly in the vicinity, their number is not sufficient to cope with the issue as thousands of vehicles are parked illegally on roads from the New Preedy Street to Regal Chowk notwithstanding these areas have already been declared as “No Parking – 24 Hours” by the traffic police.

Traffic policemen say that these traffic sections have less than half dozen lifting vehicles, which are too less to lift thousands of bikes and cars illegally parked along the streets. They say the wrong parking issue can be dealt with effectively if they are provided more lifting and toeing vehicles besides staff.

However, the wrong parking issue of Preedy, Saddar, Empress Market and Regal is also the result of improper utilisation of CDGK New Preedy Street car parking plaza. This largest car parking plaza of Pakistan is not fully utilised due to negligence of KMC officers. A two-storied modern shopping center of this parking plaza is the den of drug abusers, beggars and pickpockets, as the KMC have failed to utilise this modern shopping center despite passage of many years.

However, still the main responsibility of dealing with wrong parking rests with the Karachi traffic police and it should equip its traffic sections of Preedy, Empress Market and Lucky Star with more manpower, lifting and toeing vehicles and efficient monitoring by the senior officers.
