A realistic stance

There being no respite to the week-long clashes between the Indian security forces and the protesters a curfew was imposed yesterday ahead of Friday prayers in all 10 districts of the Valley. The clashes have led so far to 36 people killed and over 3,000 injured. Mobile Internet services continue to remain suspended for the seventh day. Meanwhile authorities have also pulled the plug on mobile telephone services in the Valley where trains also remain off the tracks.

Pakistan’s administration has registered its condemnation of the repression at various levels. Islamabad summoned Indian High Commissioner to convey Pakistan’s serious concerns over the recent killings while Nawaz Sharif deplored the excessive and unlawful use of force against the civilians. Gen Raheel Sharif has also condemned Indian brutal killings of innocent Kashmiri youth. He has called upon the world to recognise the aspirations of Kashmiri people and their struggle for freedom and help resolve the long-standing dispute for lasting amity in Kashmir and enduring peace in the region.

With AJK elections due in the last week of July, some of the parties are making the utmost use of the situation for short term gains. Having landed itself in political wilderness with little chance of coming to power anytime soon, the PPP can afford to be as irresponsible in its statements as it wants. Long before Wani’s killing PPP’s youthful chairman branded Nawaz Sharif as Modi’s friend. Now he accuses the prime minister of helping India build dams in held Kashmir by remaining silent over the issue!

On Friday the PM called a special meeting of the cabinet which decided to observe Tuesday as black day to condemn Indian atrocities and called a joint session of Parliament to discuss the matter. Meanwhile Nawaz Sharif extended moral, political and diplomatic support to Kashmiris in their just struggle for the right to self-determination. Whether the responsible stand wins PML-N votes in AJK elections or not, this nevertheless constitutes a realistic stance.

  1. Pakistan is wasting its time trying to prove its love for kashmiris. It itself is the biggest impendiment to peace. All condemnation and big talk is of no use, as long as you don't keep up your commitments and expect other party to keep its.

    Futile exercise.

  2. Take all Muslim Kashmiris to place where they belong ,rest J&k will continue to be a part of India
