Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Friday stated his party would oppose any extension to the Protection of Pakistan Act 2014.
“Protection of Pakistan Act is against the democratic norms and government should not extend such a law,” he said. It is expected the PoPA would be further extended for a period of two years.
Fazl alleged religious parties and their workers were the main targets of action taken under the law.
“Protection of Pakistan Act is being used against the religious parties, their workers and religious personalities in the country,” the JUI-F chief added.
Fazl also said that military courts established earlier have been unable to meet the expectation of the people.
“People were hoping that justice would be done by the military courts but unfortunately it could not happen,” Fazl stated.
“Establishment of military courts has given an impression that judiciary and judges are weak and puny,” elaborated the JUI-F chief.
Fazl claimed that individuals arrested four years ago were hanged by military courts for a crime which occurred a year ago.
