The Karachi Tax Bar Association (KBA) has requested the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman to extend the deadline for filing the monthly withholding statements of income tax and sales tax for June 2016.

KBA sent a letter to the FBR head saying that businesses in the whole country remained closed due to gazetted holidays for almost ten working days, i.e., from July 2 to July 10 including the Eid.

Holidays were announced by the federal government from July 5 to 8, whereas the last dates for filing the monthly withholding statements for the income and monthly sales tax returns under the Sales Tax Act for the tax period of June 2016 are July 15 and July 18. This leaves only a few working days to feed and put all the data entries into the monthly withholding statement and monthly sales tax returns which, the KBA said should be looked into to facilitate the genuine taxpayers who are working on behalf of the FBR as withholding agents and contributing a huge amount to the exchequer as their legal obligation and without any compensation.

“We, therefore, on behalf of the genuine taxpayers of the country and our members of the bar earnestly request you to kindly extend the date of filing of monthly Income Tax Withholding Statement and the Sales Tax Return for the tax period of June 2016 until July 31 in order to enable the members to complete the work and to facilitate them.”
