A joint team of WWF-Pakistan and Sindh wildlife department along with local fishermen successfully rescued a stranded female Indus river dolphin from the Salar Tributary of Khirthar Canal located 170 km off Sukkur on Sunday.
The trained rescue team of WWF-Pakistan was dispatched after the dolphin was spotted in shallow water and was carefully captured, transported in a sound proof vehicle (and constantly kept moist) until its release in the Indus River at Sukkur Barrage upstream, said a statement issued on Thursday.
The female dolphin was about 3.5 feet in length and weighs about 18 kg.
