Pakistan cricket team urges support for Edhi foundation

Pakistani players urged people to continue supporting the good work done by Edhi Foundation and take up responsibility for it after the philanthropist’s demise.

Pakistan are set to the play the first of a four-Test series against England at Lord’s today.

Pakistan opening batsman Mohammad Hafeez said that people should continue supporting the late philanthropist’s organisation, so that it keeps on doing good work in society. “We all need to come together and work hard for Edhi Foundation,” he said. “Now, it is our responsibility, not only as Pakistanis but also as good human beings to support this foundation, and work towards the betterment of the poor.”

Similarly, T20I captain Sarfraz Ahmed also said that support from Pakistani citizens was vital for the organisation to continue working like it did during Edhi’s lifetime. “Edhi’s death has deeply saddened us, he worked hard for Pakistan and his absence would definitely be felt in our society,” he said. “However, we should all support Edhi Foundation so that it can carry on working like it did during Edhi’s lifetime.”

Furthermore, batsman Asad Shafiq said that it is now the people’s responsibility to raise their level of commitment towards the organisation. “We all need to support the Edhi Foundation, so that it continues its social work,” he said. “It is our responsibility now.”

Earlier, Pakistan cricket team observed a minute’s silence in memory of Abdul Sattar Edhi before the commencement of day two of their tour game against Sussex. Wearing black armbands, the Pakistan cricket team found a fitting way to show respect to Pakistan’s most influential philanthropist.

Last month, the International Cricket Council (ICC) granted Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) permission to use Edhi Foundation’s logo on Pakistan cricket team’s official kit for the tour of England. This would be the first time in Pakistan cricket team’s history that players would wear the logo of a charity organisation on their official kit.
