Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting, on Wednesday to review different proposals regarding the implementation of programme for the construction of new classrooms in the schools of the province.
Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that Punjab government will construct thousands of additional classrooms in the schools at a cost of Rs. 28 billion within two years. More than ten thousand new classrooms will be constructed in the schools at a cost of Rs. 15 billion during the current financial year, he added.
Shehbaz Sharif said that new rooms will be constructed on priority basis in the schools of the districts of South Punjab. Construction of new rooms will increase enrollment, he said.
The chief minister said that this mega programme is a useful investment for equipping the youth of the nation with education and good educational facilities will become available to girls and boys with the construction of new rooms. Shehbaz Sharif directed the completion of third party audit of the survey of schools regarding construction of additional rooms and said that an effective monitoring system will be evolved in connection with implementation of this programme.
He said that commissioners, DCOs and assistant commissioners will be responsible for monitoring with regard to implementation of this programme at divisional, district and tehsil level respectively. He said that provision of missing facilities will be ensured on priority basis in the schools where additional rooms will be constructed.
The chief minister said that no compromise would be made regarding implementation of the programme and that ensuring high standard will be the responsibility of the concerned departments. Shehbaz Sharif said that he will personally monitor implementation of this mega programme and review progress regularly. Provincial Ministers Rana Mashhood Ahmed, Tanvir Aslam Malik, chief secretary, Planning and Development chairman, secretaries of concerned departments and senior officials attended the meeting.
