National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry has called corruption a major obstacle in the social and economic development of the country.

While speaking to FPCCI President Abdul Rauf Alam during a meeting, chairman NAB said that NAB is trying its best to make Pakistan a corruption-free country so that masses and business community can reap the dividends of progress, said a press release issued on Wednesday.

He stressed that corruption results in a lack of confidence and suspicions which hit the local and foreign investment and is against the national interests.

Qamar said that corruption triggers a chain reaction and leads to injustice, mistrust, and suspicion, which then creates a sense of insecurity among the foreign investors.

He said that good governance ensures getting maximum benefits for minimum cost in terms of efficiency, productivity, and quality, but all efforts are rendered meaningless if the malaise of corruption is not checked.

NAB had chalked out a comprehensive national anti-corruption strategy for the eradication of corruption and corrupt practices throughout the country, he added.

The FPCCI president apprised Chaudhry about some reservations and problems of the business community and said that reduction in corruption will increase local and foreign investments which improve confidence of the investors as well as masses.

  1. Don't just call and say – contain and remove it. This is what NAB is meant for. Even if many cases (some 150 or more) have been referred to Supreme Court, why sitting on some very high-profile corruption cases – including that of ex-PMs and President ?
