9 terrorists arrested, killed in Punjab operations

Police and security agencies have stepped up their operations against suspected terrorists in Punjab. At least nine terrorists were arrested/ killed in separate operations in Lahore and Okara on Wednesday.

According to reports, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) conducted a raid and arrested three members of a banned outfit from Lahore on Tuesday night.

The arrested suspects include Idrees, Ghulam Dastgir and Tahir Yousaf who had been arrested from Band Road on secret identification. Cash, explosive material, electric circuits and other possessions were recovered from the suspects who belonged to Islamic State (IS).

During initial investigation, the suspects confessed that they had planned to attack government buildings and installations.

In another operation, at least six terrorists were killed while two law enforcement agencies personnel were wounded in a gun battle in a village near Okara on early Wednesday morning.

Reports say intelligence agencies and police launched a joint operation against terrorists on a tip-off in village 28 L-2 near Okara upon which the militants present in the area opened fire. The law enforcement agencies returned the fire as a result six terrorist were killed.

At least two law enforcement agencies personnel were wounded in exchange of fire with the terrorists.

Rocket launchers, material to make bombs and other arms were recovered from the dead terrorists. The law enforcement agencies have cordoned of the area and launched a search operation.

Police also seized a vehicles loaded with weapons in Gujranwala.
