NADRA has decided to earn millions of rupees from the re-verification exercise of the Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC).
According to sources, Chairman NADRA has moved a summary to the Interior Ministry suggesting to charge Rs 15 per family to meet the expenditure of verification of CNICs.
A committee has been formed under Secretary Interior to find a solution to the re-verification issue.
The Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had tasked NADRA to start re-verification of CNICs from the first of July, 2016 but despite the passage of 13 days, the Authority has not started the process. NADRA was required to send an SMS to the head of the family for re-verification.
A proposal under consideration is to direct the Mobile Phone Companies to receive the SMS charges from the family head.
