It seems WhatsApp groups are buzzed with debates on three things:
- Should IK have delayed his departure for London and attended Abdul Sattar Edhi funeral?
- Should Islamabad airport be named after Edhi Sb?
- Comparison between Edhi sb and PM Nawaz Sharif.
Here are my two cents on these three questions:
- I personally think IK should have attended the funeral of Edhi sb because both of them are great philanthropists. But eventually it was a personal decision of IK because it does not make any difference to Edhi sb whether Ik comes to his funeral or not. But it would have certainly made a difference for IK if he had attended and paid his respect to a great man.
- I do not agree with the idea that Islamabad airport be named after Edhi sb because Benazir also sacrificed her life for this country. But yes, I do agree that services of Edhi sb should be acknowledged and some other airport like Hyderabad and Sukkur be named after him. We can’t play politics with our national heroes for political point scoring.
- The comparison between Edhi sb and PM Nawaz is unjustified. One was a philanthropist and other a politician. There is a huge difference in both these fields and require different set of skills. Edhi sb was a pragmatic and wise man that is why he declined to enter politics and abandon philanthropy. He understood that his capabilities are more suited for charitable work. PM Nawaz Sharif on the other hand has failed to serve his country as a politician to the best of his ability and capability. This is my personal judgement. I think he could have done much better if he had rose above his personal and family business interests and focused solely on serving every citizen of this country.
