Soyem held for Abdul Sattar Edhi in Karachi today

Philanthropist celebrated humanitarian and the icon of social and welfare service Abdul Sattar Edhi’s Soyam prayers were held Sunday (today) at Karachi’s Memon Masjid.

According to the Edhi Foundation spokesman, preparations were made for recitation of Quran and (Fateha) prayers to be offered for Edhi’s departed soul on the occasion.

Sindh Home Minister Suhail Anwar Siyal had directed Sindh Inspector General and Karachi police chief to provide complete security at the Soyam gathering.

Senior political leaders, including Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Dr Farooq Sattar and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s Dr Arif Alvi were among those in attendance.

Abdul Sattar Edhi was laid to rest on Saturday as thousands attended his funeral prayers.Funeral prayers for humanitarian Abdus Sattar Edhi, who passed away on Friday after the prolonged illness at the age of 88, were attended by top military and political leadership amid strict security.

President Mamnoon Hussain, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Shareef, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Sindh Governor Ishrat ul Ebad attended the funeral held at the National Stadium.

Edhi, whose death was confirmed by his son Faisal, was revered for setting up maternity wards, morgues, orphanages, shelters and homes for the elderly, picking up where limited government-run services fell short.

  1. Even if I could not physically attend the Soyem, being indisposed, I have contributed whatever I could and expect ALL who can even if not physically present. That hardly makes any difference. So, please contribute wherever you are.
