Elections get bloodier as three killed, 15 injured in clashes between PPP, PML-N workers in AJK

At least three people were killed and 15 others were injured in a clash between workers of the two political parties in Haveli district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Sunday.

According to police, an exchange of fire took place between the workers of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) during an election campaign in Azad Kashmir’s Kahuta village on Saturday. PML-N’s electoral candidate Chaudhry Aziz was among the injured.

Several shops and an ambulance were torched following the clash. One person died on Saturday while two others succumbed to injuries on Sunday morning.

Soon after the clash, a heavy contingent of police reached the spot and brought the situation under control by using tear gas and batons.

The police filed a case against 12 persons, including PPP Minister Faisal Rathore. However, no arrests were made till the filing of this report. The dead and the injured were shifted to a local hospital for medico-legal formalities and treatment.
