Pakistan tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi missed out on his career’s second Grand Slam final on Friday as he was on the receiving end of the mixed doubles’ semifinal defeat against Robert Farah of Colombia and Germany’s Anna-Lena Groenefeld.

The first semifinal, contested on Court no 3, saw Aisam’s pair with Kazakhstan’s Yaroslava Shvedova make a remarkable comeback in the second set (6-2) of the match after a fumble in the first set (4-6).

The last set of the tightly contested semifinal went down the wire. But Colombian-German duo stole the show with 5-7 set score.

Aisam and Shvedova fired a total of 9 aces in the contest, three more than their opponents.

Their total points tally of 94 was seven points more than Farah-Groenefeld’s in approximately 2 hour long match.

Making his 11th Wimbledon appearance this year, Aisam registered his best grass courts’ event result by securing a semifinal berth on Thursday. His previous best came in 2010 when the 46th ranked doubles player qualified for the quarterfinal.

In the same year, Aisam became the first Pakistani to feature in a Grand Slam final. The 36-year-old, partnering with India’s Rohann Bopanna, faced off against Bryan brothers in the final of US Open the hard court event.
