Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has said that his government has the capacity to lead the province towards a sustained economic growth. The province has surplus natural gas that is being planned for diversion to power generation as his government wanted to make KP economically viable unit of the federation where there are multi-faceted avenues of employment, growth, industrialisation and economic development.
He was presiding over a meeting on special initiative and fast track execution of projects, especially economic zones, industrialisation, infrastructure, development, social sector in the CM Secretariat on Monday.
Senator Mohsin Aziz, Ghulam Dastagir Khan Chairman KP EZDMC Special Economic Zone, Mohsin M. Syed Chief Executive KP EZDMC, Chief Secretary Amjad Ali Khan, administrative secretaries and others attended.
The meeting decided to pursue the Chinese investment for circular rail in Peshawar. It also decided on the establishment of KP Insurance Company and KP Holding Company.
The chief minister said: “We have a lot of avenues for hydel power generation and at the same time we have extra natural gas which we decided to divert to the industrial sector to boost industrialisation in the province.”
Initially his government identified Karak, Kohat and Rashkai for industrialisation and the natural gas would be used for that purpose. “We will generate power from natural gas to run industrial units in the province,” he added.
He said: “We are quick learner of our past interaction with WAPDA, therefore, we rationalised our approach to reduce dependence on WAPDA because WAPDA is reluctant to give us our share of electricity. The government has made up its mind to produce electricity for industrial consumption and meeting our other requirements.” He asked the concerned officials to invite biddings for the purpose.
The CM said that his government is going all out for self sufficiency in almost all sectors reducing dependence on others that appeared to be a wastage of time and deceit in the past.
Commenting on the industrialisation process in the province, the CM said, “There will be a one window operation that will track the province on fast track progress and economic development. Rest assured we have the capacity to lead the province towards a sustained economic growth.”
Khattak directed the participants to pull their sleeves and show results as he hated efforts that do not give results for the public welfare.
Khattak said that the interest of the province should be kept supreme and it should be visible for the fast track development of the province. “We have already identified the direction of development of the province and we have to work on it to get it accomplished,” he concluded.
