Bollywood star Aamir Khan is the latest celebrity from Bollywood to weigh in on Salman Khan’s controversial rape analogy, saying it is unfortunate and insensitive if he made those comments.

While speaking at the Mumbai launch of the poster of his next movie Dangal, foreign media quoted Aamir as saying, “I feel Salman’s comment on rape was unfortunate and insensitive”.

When asked if he would give any advice to Salman on this, Aamir said, “Who am I to give advice?”

Earlier, in an interview about his movie Sultan, Salman compared his exhaustion from a physically demanding shooting sequence to feeling like a “raped woman”. He however immediately backtracked, saying he shouldn’t have said that. The damage was already done, though.

The remark sparked a furious debate and led to the Maharashtra State Commission for Women summoning the actor for a hearing.

In the meantime, actors such as Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut apologised “on behalf of the industry”.

After even his father Salim Khan publicly apologised, Salman’s reaction was to simply say, “Knowing me, the shorter I keep it the better it is,” on the sidelines of the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) awards that recently concluded in Madrid.
