The Sindh Health Department has completely failed to implement the Healthcare Commission Bill, 2014 and register private hospitals, clinics, maternity homes, blood banks, while laboratories throughout the province have not yet been established.

The Healthcare Commission Bill, 2014 is yet to be implemented after the lapse of over two years due to the lack of seriousness of the authorities concerned of the health department.

The bill was passed by the Sindh Assembly with the aim to improve healthcare quality, protecting patients’ rights, doctors’ safety at healthcares, monitoring of public and private hospitals and ending malpractice of quackery in the medical field that plays with lives of patients.

The health department also constituted a nine-member experts’ committee to implement the Sindh Healthcare Commission Bill 2014 in the province. However, the experts committee has not been made functional so far.

The people of Sindh are braving the negative impacts due to the delay in implementation of this important healthcare law.

Sindh Health Secretary Ahmed Bux Narejo was not available for comment.
