Closure of bank branches and the links being down of most of the ATM machines on the eve of Eidul Fitr badly irked people in many parts of country including in Karachi, it was reported Sunday.

According to details, various ATM machines have stopped working while many others were out of cash which is enraging people who have lots of Eid shopping left to do.

Citizens said that the bank authorities have not taken any precautionary measure to sort out the matter.

They said that many of the people have to travel to their native areas but the downing of the links of ATM machines is creating difficulties for them.

On the other hand in a statement in Karachi on Sunday, the National Bank of Pakistan said it experienced unanticipated technical difficulties in its operating system the day before while catering to extraordinary demand for cash on the eve of Eidul Fitr and countrywide monthly pension disbursements.

It maintained that the customers of the bank had to face difficulties in availing banking services at several locations in the country.

It however, said that operations of the National Bank have now been restored and it is providing its services to the pensioners also.

Meanwhile, all the banks including the NBP have been instructed to ensure that all their ATMs remain functional and disburse cash through the Eid break.
