The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Saturday submitted an adjournment motion in the National Assembly against Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Zafar Mahmood for his remarks on the Kalabagh Dam issue.

The adjournment motion was submitted by Nafeesa Shah, Shazia Marri, Naveed Qamar, Aijaz Jakhrani and other PPP leaders after the WAPDA chief’s remarks sparked a controversy.

The adjournment motion stated that since three provincial assemblies had passed resolutions against the construction of Kalabagh Dam, the statement issued by Zafar Mahmood should open up a new Pandora’s box.

It said the statement by the WAPDA chairman was not part of his mandate and was against the spirit of federalism.

The motion further said that this issue was a matter of national concern and needed to be discussed in the assembly at the earliest.
