Inmate dies, five fall unconscious as Larkana jail remains without power for four days

An inmate died while five others fell unconscious due to severe heat as the Larkana Central Prison remained without power for the fourth consecutive day on Friday.

Reportedly, SEPCO authorities suspended power supply to the central prison on Tuesday due to non-payment of Rs 27.5 million dues. Authorities from both sides held negotiations in this regard. However, power supply could not be restored on the fourth day.

Six prisoners fell unconscious due to extreme heat. An inmate identified as 55-year-old Yousaf Somroo died while being ferried to Chandka Medical Hospital. The deceased had been jailed in connection with a murder case.

Reportedly, the central jail has a capacity of 650 prisoners, but at present 951 prisoners are being kept there.
