The first death from dengue fever in 2016 was reported by the Dengue Surveillance Cell, which occurred at a private hospital in Karachi where 58-year-old victim, Fareed-ud-Din succumbed to the deadly virus.
Fareed-ud-Din was a resident of Shah Faisal Colony and died in a private clinic during treatment.
However, one death by dengue fever was reported from the interior Sindh in June.
Dengue fever is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes and is a global public health concern. There is no vaccine available in Pakistan for the virus, which kills an estimated 20,000 people each year and infects up to 100 million across the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported.
