I am Haroon Rasheed from Malir, Karachi. I’m writing this letter facing too much trouble travelling through main Malir Road. I want to raise my voice through your esteemed publication. Your support in this regard will help me to play my role.
The National Highway is supposed to be the main artery as it not only connects Karachi with other cities, but its strategic location also makes the National Highway the most significant route for hundreds of thousands of commuters who travel on it on a regular basis.
Unfortunately, various parts of the road are totally broken and are unfit to be travelled for all kinds of light and heavy vehicles. At several points, the road is flooded by sewerage water, while illegal construction and massive encroachments throughout create less space for vehicular movement.
Other than causing regular traffic jams during the peak hours, various joints of the highway have become ideal spots for car lifters and street criminals who find it quite easy to loot commuters and road-users amid the traffic chaos.
Turning into a disaster, the National Highway needs urgent repairs and upgradation.
