Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday said that the accountability of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is necessary for eliminating corruption from the country.

Khan, during his visit to Chitral, claimed that Sharif’s assets abroad prove that he is involved in corruption and money laundering.

He said that that Prime Minister Sharif is in London because he cannot handle the pressure of Panama leaks.

The Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz government is trying to save Sharif through the terms of reference (TORs) of their own choice, he added.

The PTI chief said that the suspects facing charges of corruption should also be released from jails if the prime minister is not held accountable.

He further said that Pakistan would be saved and poverty would end if action is taken against the prime minister as law is equal for everyone. Khan said that all the opposition parties agreed on the point that the prime minister and his family, involved in the Panama leaks, should be held accountable otherwise the other corrupt people should also not be held accountable.

Khan said the PTI would keep the opposition parties united to probe Sharif and his family.

He, however, said that if the opposition does not support the PTI, it would alone continue its campaign against the prime minister and if needed, it would also come on streets.

Prime Minister Sharif underwent an open heart surgery in London on May 31. It was the 66-year-old premier’s second major cardiac medical procedure in five years.

The premier insists his family has done “nothing wrong”, saying the claims have been investigated twice decades ago, under the tenure of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf.
