The Supreme Court, while declaring the contempt of court plea submitted by supermodel Ayyan Ali against the Ministry of Interior maintainable, on Thursday issued notices to the interior secretary and additional secretary, Federal Board of Revenue chairman and Karachi airport’s DG immigration.

As a three-judge bench, headed by Justice Sheikh Amjad Saeed, started the hearing, Ayyan Ali’s counsel Sardar Latif Khosa informed the court that officials of the Interior Ministry were continuously violating the law.

Prosecutor Rana Waqar argued that Ayyan Ali’s plea against the Sindh High Court’s verdict was not maintainable and that this was up to the court whether or not it wanted to hear the contempt of court case.

Upon this, Justice Dost Muhammad remarked if contempt of court was not proven then the application would be dismissed.

Latif Khosa contended if Pervez Musharraf could go abroad why not Ayyan Ali.

Meanwhile, Shafqat Munir Malik, the counsel for custom inspector Ijaz Muhammad Chaudhry’ widow, informed the court that Ayyan Ali was arrested from Islamabad’s Benazir Bhutto International Airport on March 14 last year with $500,000, adding that the money recovered from the model was in the custody of the custom inspector, who was attacked by two unidentified gunmen at his house and succumbed to his injuries while being ferried to the Benazir Bhutto Hospital.

When Justice Tariq Masood asked Ijaz Chaudhry’s widow if the magistrate had issued arrest warrant for Ayyan Ali in the murder case, her counsel said the magistrate did not issue any arrest warrant.

Advocated Shafqat Malik further informed the court that an FIR had been registered with the Waris Khan police station and a statement was also recorded, but the police did not take any action against the culprits.

The counsel requested the court that without hearing the petitioner, the name of the model not be excluded from the Exit Control List (ECL).

After hearing both the prosecution and Ayyan Ali’s counsel, the court adjourned the hearing till after Eid holidays.
