The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) foiled a ‘plot to kill 100 citizens’ in Karachi during the holy month of Ramzan and arrested six suspects for planning it.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Naveed Khawaja said that the suspects, identified as Mohammad Ali, Sheraz, Hamid, Israr, and Pervaiz, were planning to kill 100 citizens in the port city.
He said the suspects were accused of targeted killing and illegal possession of weapons.
Karachi, a city of 20 million people and Pakistan´s economic hub, is frequently hit by religious, political and ethnic violence.
The paramilitary forces began a crackdown on militants in the city in 2013, which has led to a substantial drop in overall levels of violence.
