The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday nullified the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) notification of imposing a three-day ban on Geo Entertainment anchor Amir Liaquat Hussain’s show ‘Inam Ghar’.
With the media regulator’s decision voided by the court, the programme will go on air as usual.
“Sindh High Court’s honourable Justice Shah Nawaz Tariq has suspended PEMRA’s decision,” a statement posted on PEMRA’s Twitter account read.
PEMRA’s Council of Complaints had recommended on Monday a three-day ban on the TV show (from June 28 to June 30) besides directing Geo TV to air an apology for hurting the sentiments of the people.
“Inam Ghar host Amir Liaquat should apologise at the beginning of the programme on July 1 besides giving assurance that such irresponsible and unprofessional behaviour will not be repeated in future, otherwise the programme will be banned for an indefinite period of time,” aid a notice issued by PEMRA.
A notice was earlier issued to Geo TV for airing on June 6 scenes of a girl committing suicide and a participant of the programme abusing during the show.
