The Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU), Karachi on Monday surpassed the revenue collection mark of Rs 1 trillion before the closing of the current fiscal year 2015-16.
Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Nisar Mohammad Khan who was also present in the office, lauded the performance of the LTU’s officers over this landmark achievement of revenue collection.
While applauding the performance of the officers and staff of the LTU, Khan said that this unit was set up in 2002 as a pilot project of the tax reforms in the country and at that time, no one could have imagined that this landmark would be achieved in such a short time.
“The FBR has been assigned a revenue collection target of Rs 3.104 trillion,” Khan said and added that the government has not revised the target. He said that the FBR will achieve this target in the current fiscal year.
Talking about broadening of the tax base, the FBR chief said the steps are being taken to identify non-filers and bring them into the tax net.
The FBR chief graced the occasion along with FBR Member-IR (operations) Dr Muhammad Irshad and the chief commissioners of other field formations of Karachi addressed the gathering at the LTU House. Syed Ayaz Mahmood Informed the audience that the LTU is the first ever field formation of Pakistan to achieve this distinction.
The chairman was hopeful that continuing efforts of the officers will lead the country on its path towards economic progress.
The chairman also distributed shields as a token of appreciation and remembrance of this historic occasion.
