Court issues legal notice to Qandeel Baloch for bringing shame to ‘Baloch clan’

Internet sensation Qandeel Baloch the other day was summoned to a court hearing on July 13 by Senior Civil Judge Khursheed Ahmad, on a petition filed by a lawyer.

Advocate Shahbaz Ali Khan Gurmani, the petitioner, said that Qandeel Baloch had brought ‘shame’ to the Baloch race by adopting the surname. He added that she had no ties to the Baloch race.

The Gadai union council Vice Chairman Fayyaz Khan Leghari of Dera Ghazi Khan sent model Qandeel Baloch a legal notice on Monday demanding that she apologise for ‘bringing shame’ to the Baloch race, stop using Baloch as her surname and pay him Rs50 million. “Otherwise, strict action will be taken against you”, says the legal notice.

The notice says that Qandeel Baloch’s legal name was Fauzia Azeem. It alleges that she has been working along a certain ‘agenda’ and is not of Baloch ethnicity. It says that she hails from the Marha Shaikh family, which is not a Baloch tribe.

Leghari has demanded a formal apology from the model within seven days. He has also requested the federal Shariah court, the Islamic Ideological Council and the federal government to look into the matter.
