Court extends judicial remand of Shafqat Cheema for 14 days

An accountability court in Islamabad on Monday extended the judicial remand of Foreign Ministry director Shafqat Cheema for 14 days in the illegal assets and human trafficking cases.

Cheema was produced before the court where the suspect’s lawyers were to submit plea-bargain but the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials failed to provide the case report.

The officials requested the court to extend the time for the case study on which, the counsel for Cheema asked to return the laptop and mobile phone of his client, but it was rejected by the NAB.

Subsequently, the court extended the remand and ordered the investigation officer to submit a report till July 11.

Shafqat Cheema who had been appointed as in-charge Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Maldives desk said that he is suffering from heart ailment due to which he applied for the plea bargain.
