67 huts along nullah Leh removed to avoid losses during floods

At least 67 huts along nullah Leh have been removed to avoid any loss of life keeping in view the possibility of floods during monsoon as per the forecast of Meteorological Department.

To meet any emergency, Rawal Town has been divided into four sectors and the administration has decided to purchase five dewatering pumps on emergency basis to drain out rainwater from low lying areas of the city. A flood relief committee has also been constituted to handle any unseen situation.

The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has speeded up the cleaning of nullah Leh whereas the workers of the Waste Management Company have been tasked to unclog 11 other nullahs which channel through the city.

A high level meeting was chaired by Commissioner Azmat Mehmood which reviewed the arrangements for overcoming the expected floods. The meeting was attended by the district coordination officer, additional deputy commissioner general (ADCG), WASA MD Raja Shaukat, Rawalpindi Waste Management Company MD Irfan Qureshi and other officials.

According to ADCG Nazia Parveen Sudhan, nomads had set up 67 huts, including other encroachments in Nadeem Colony along nullah Leh which were removed to reduce loss of lives during the expected floods.
