Worried for security of actors and artistes, renowned singer and actor Fakhr-e-Alam stepped down as the Sindh Film Censor Board chairman on Monday – days after the assassination of famed qawwal Amjad Sabri in broad daylight in Karachi.

Alam resigned over personal reasons and his resignation has reportedly been forwarded to Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah for approval.

Alam’s resignation as the censor board chief comes a couple of days after he led a protest of leading TV and film actors in Karachi and called for their security.

The actor told media that he knew that security won’t be provided to actors and that their protest was symbolic.

Senior PPP leader Shehla Raza taunted Alam saying the one who had led the protest of artistes was the grandson of General Rani.

Alam denounced Shehla’s comments as “cheap” and urged the PPP leadership to take notice.
