Offshore politics: PTI to lobby against Nawaz Sharif in UK

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to lobby against the government and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif the in the United Kingdom.

In this regard, the PTI has approached several members of the ruling Conservative and the opposition Labour parties and other prominent politicians of Pakistan-origin.

The PTI leadership will meet the British leaders after Eid, where they will urge them to take action against those who have bought properties in the United Kingdom after committing felonies of money laundering and tax evasion in their own country.

PTI London President Waheedur Rehman has been assigned the responsibility to lobby against the government in the United Kingdom, and to convince the British government to introduce legislation which prohibits the purchase of property from corruption money.

The PTI is facing disappointment after lack of progress over the investigation mechanism for Panama Papers probe even though names of the family of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif have featured in the Leaks, linking them to offshore companies.

There has been inaction by the government over any enquiry into the matter, and a committee to develop TORs has reached a deadlock.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan has already warned that he will take to streets if there is no consensus reached over the enquiry committee. Now it seems that the PTI has decided to take its protests offshore too, in order to put more pressure on Nawaz Sharif.
