It has to be accepted that the ongoing Ranger’s led Karachi operation has brought a significant decline in terrorism, crime and improved the law and order situation in the city but the recent abduction of the son of the sitting Chief Justice (CJ) of Sindh High Court (SHC) in broad daylight from the most posh area of the city & the killing of renowned Qawwal Amjad Sabri at a busy thoroughfare has raised serious questions on the effectiveness of the Karachi operation.
The prime & foremost duty of government’s is to safeguard the life & property of the people, yet our government’s (both Federal & Provincial) have miserably failed in doing so. I fail to comprehend that why successive government’s (both civ–mil) have not focused in installing high resolution camera’s (Karachi wide) in the most violence hit city of the country? If a ‘safe city project’ can be launched in Islamabad, then why can’t it be launched in the financial nerve centre of the country? Karachi is the economic jugular vein of our country, yet those at the helm of affairs have not demonstrated their dedication to make Karachi a ‘crime free city’. Funding of such a project must not be much of an issue keeping in view the gravity of the situation.
Whenever the law & order situation in Karachi aggravates the Sindh government’s novel way to curb rising street crimes and targeted killings in Karachi comes in the form of imposing a ban on pillion riding. It is high time that sincere & persistent efforts are made to root out crime and terrorism from the megalopolis.
I hope & pray for the safe return of the abducted son of the CJ SHC & would also like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of the slain Amjad Sabri. May ALLAH SWT give his family the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
