Sindh Inspector General of Police AD Khawaja on Friday said the investigation of famed Qawwal Amjad Sabri’s assassination and the kidnapping of Awais Shah, son of chief justice of the Sindh High Court, has produced no positive leads till now.

“So far no positive leads have emerged in our preliminary investigations,” the IG told a press conference after holding a high level meeting with senior officials.

Khawaja added that the investigation for both cases is at an initial level. “Sketches of the suspects are made according to details provided by eyewitnesses. These drawings are not 100 per cent accurate,” he added, referring to a woman’s claim that the sketch of the alleged murderer of Amjad Sabri resembled her son, who had gone missing three years ago.

Sindh Home Minister Suhail Anwar Siyal said joint investigation teams (JIT) will be constituted for both cases.

The minister also announced a reward of Rs 5 million for information leading to Sabri’s attackers. He regretted the federal government appeared reluctant to provide access to GSM locators, geo-fencing and the NADRA family tree to Sindh police.
