Met office predicts monsoon from next week

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted widespread rains with isolated heavy thundershowers from Monday across the country.

That is why all the concerned authorities have been directed to take necessary measures to avoid loss of life and damage to property.

According to the details, the Met office predicted that onset of monsoon is very likely in Pakistan during the coming week, most probably on Monday and Tuesday over upper parts of the country. Monsoon rains are likely to start from upper parts of the country that will spread towards the central and southern parts of the country during the week.

During the first spell of monsoon, widespread rains with isolated heavy thundershowers accompanied by strong gusty winds are expected in Islamabad, Punjab, KP, FATA and Kashmir. While scattered rains are also expected in Sindh and Balochistan during the coming week.

All concerned authorities are advised to remain alerted during the coming week because there is a high probability of isolated heavy downpours which may generate flash flooding in hilly terrain and urban flooding in big cities.

NDMA is holding consultative meetings with all provincial / regional disaster management authorities to review pre-monsoon preparedness and contingency planning for upcoming Monsoon Season.

In this regard, a high-level meeting was held at the Chief Secretary AJK Secretariat co-chaired by Chairman NDMA Major General Asghar Nawaz and Chief Secretary AJK Sultan Sikandar Raja.
