Facebook makes revealing tweak to user profile page

Last week the social media website Facebook tweaked the setting for the intro page of all their users. Essentially the change in setting makes all your employment history and education history visible on the main profile page. So anyone viewing your profile page will be able to see your extended employment and education history in the ‘intro’ field.

Before this change, the extension of the ‘intro’ would have to be opened to view complete bio, something a viewer would not typically do. But now, all the information is present as soon as one opens up their own or any other user’s profile page.

This does not mean that Facebook itself has updated or input any extra information. It’s just the information the user themselves have input over the years. If before only your last employer or latest education was showing, now it will show all your past internships etc and schooling on the main profile page, given you have input all that information.

Users concern is that their pages will now look sloppy with too much unnecessary information being displayed on their main page.

So if you haven’t viewed your profile page in a while, now would be a good time.

There is a simple fix of course. On a computer, click the little pencil icon next to one of the lines on your Intro and then de-select anything you don’t want there.

On mobile, navigate to your profile and tap the line that says “Edit Info,” then de-select anything you don’t want to appear in your Intro.
