A local court has approved an extension in Senator Hafiz Hamdullah’s bail until July 15 in a case pertaining to alleged harassment of women’s rights activist Marvi Sirmed.

Additional Session Judge Raja Asif Mehmood heard the bail plea on Thursday.

It may be mentioned here that Hamdullah was booked for allegedly verbally abusing and trying to physically attack Marvi Sirmed during a live television debate on honour killing.

The incident happened during a private TV talk show when Hafiz Hamdullah of Jamiat Ulema-e-Isla-Fazal (JUI-F) became furious at Marvi Sarmad for speaking against honour killing.

According to the footage widely circulated on social media, the lawmaker used foul language against the activist and tried to attack her.

Marvi lodged a complaint with the Margalla police station and the case was registered against the senator.
