At least four people died and seven others received injuries due to roof collapse in Azam Garden area Lahore after heavy rain lashed different parts of the city Tuesday. According to rescue officials, the incident occurred on Multan Road.

Poorly-built houses across Pakistan, particularly in rural areas, are susceptible to collapse during rainy seasons. Severe weather in recent years has killed hundreds and destroyed huge tracts of prime farmland.

During the rainy season last summer, torrential downpours and flooding killed more than hundred people and affected thousands others across the country.

According to Met Office, rain with isolated heavy falls accompanied by strong gusty winds is expected at scattered places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Hazara, Malakand, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, divisions, FATA, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

This year, summer monsoon rainfall is likely to be 10-20 per cent above normal over the country, averaged for three months.

More than average rainfall is expected over Punjab, KP, Sindh, AJK and Northeast Balochistan.
