CM lauds Punjab police for using modern technology

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a high-level meeting on Tuesday which reviewed the steps taken for reforms in police system and improvements in the police department through information technology.

The chief minister said that Punjab police have completed the historic work of computerisation of the record of every police officer and that the use of modern technology for improving police department is commendable He said that the entire data of the police officials is available on a click of button. He said that feeding of the data of all officers with the past record in human resource management information system is a big achievement.

Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, inspector general police, CCPO Lahore and the police team working on the project. He also thanked Punjab Information Technology Board chairman and his team for their cooperation with regard to human resource management information system. He said that update data of 1.5 lakh police force will be available after the computerisation of the record. He appreciated the performance of police with regard to computerisation of record of police force and said that it will help improve efficiency of police besides giving field posting to the best human resource.

The chief minister said that modern reception desks have been set up in 200 police stations of Punjab while more desks will soon be set up in all police stations of the province. He said that all out resources will be provided to the police for this purpose. He said that setting up of reception desks is an important step towards reforms in police system. He said that establishment of reception desks in police stations will help register complaints and FIRs. The chief minister said that reception desks are operating in 200 police stations of 13 districts of the province.

Shehbaz Sharif said that reception desks are of vital importance for changing the image of Punjab police while effective monitoring of the desks is also essential. He said that appointment of sub-inspectors recruited through Punjab Public Service Commission will result in changes and improvement in the police department. He said that use of information technology will improve efficiency of police and restore the confidence of people in the force.

He said that maximum use of information technology is of vital importance for improvement of police system and Punjab police has taken a lead in this regard. The chief minister was also given a briefing on human resource management information system and setting up of reception desks in police stations.
