A survey conducted by Gallop Pakistan shows that a majority of the countrymen are satisfied with the performance of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
The survey report which appeared in the media on Monday said that about 68 per cent of people asked to respond to questions regarding investigation into Panama Papers, saw duplicity in the opposition’s demands. They saw duplicity in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief’s demands for the prime minister’s resignation.
A total of 54 per cent of the people surveyed also expressed their satisfaction over the performance of the prime minister. The survey was carried out among a sample of 1,707 men and women in the rural and urban areas of all the four provinces of the country, during May 30 to June 6 this year.
The error margin is estimated to be approximately 2-3 per cent at 95 per cent confidence level.
Responding to a query related to the opposition’s demand over the Panama Leaks investigation to begin with the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, 50 per cent of the respondents rejected the idea and said that the investigation should be held simultaneously for all the people mentioned in the Panama Papers.
“Responding to this, 68 per cent of the people agreed that it was dishonest of Imran Khan to ask for PM Nawaz Sharif’s resignation, while 29 percent believed that this was not the case and his demand was legitimate. As many as 3 per cent said they knew nothing about the issue,” the report said.
Further, people were asked to suggest whether Imran Khan’s stance was justified, in which he claimed that he had the right to form offshore companies as he was not a British citizen. Responding to this, 62 per cent people said that Imran Khan’s stance was not justified while 36 per cent said it was justified.
In the survey, the people were also asked to evaluate Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s performance and how much they were satisfied with it. Responding to this, 54 per cent said they were quite satisfied with the prime ministers’ performance.
In the survey, the people were also asked which of the two forms of government is better – democracy or dictatorship. An overwhelming majority, 84 per cent, said that democracy is a better than dictatorship.
The Gallup Pakistan survey also asked people, whether they believed that PTI leader Jehangir Tareen had his loans waived off from various banks as claimed by the PML-N. Replying to this, 38 per cent people said they thought the claim was ‘very true’, while 40 percent believed it was ‘true to some extent’.
It was further asked that if the allegation against Jehangir Tareen was true and if they thought there should be an investigation regarding this matter. Responding to this, 92 per cent of the people participating in the survey supported the idea and said there should be an investigation into the matter.
