The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday issued notices to the Sindh Rangers director general (DG) and Sindh inspector general of police (IGP), directing them to submit their respective comments on the petitions seeking the whereabouts of missing persons.
The SHC bench, headed by Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, was hearing the petitions filed for the recovery of missing men Muhammad Saleem-ur-Rehman and Salman.
Mst Shahnaz, the sister of missing Salman, submitted that her brother was a rickshaw driver and got married a few months ago. She added that Salman was at home on December 29, 2015 when he received a call on which he told the family that he was going to Surjani and will come back within 30 minutes. “When my brother reached Surjani, he was detained by some personnel in civil dresses and he has been missing since then,” she added.
Separately, Anis-ur-Rehman, father of missing Saleem-ur-Rehman, informed the court that his son was picked up by the men wearing police uniforms on January 11. “The law enforcers detained my son without disclosing the reason of arrest and shifted him to an unknown place. We are not being informed about the whereabouts of my son since then,” he said.
The petitioners alleged that their relatives were in the custody of law enforcers but they are not disclosing their arrest.
Citing the Sindh rangers DG, Sindh IGP and home secretary as respondents, the petitioners prayed the court to direct the respondents to produce the detainees before the court.
After the initial hearing, the court issued notices to the deputy attorney general, Sindh advocate general and respondents to file their comments in the next hearings.
