At least four more children died at Civil Hospital Mithi on Monday due to malnutrition in Tharparkar area of Sindh, taking the death toll to over 288.

According to reports, an outbreak of water-borne and food-shortage diseases continue to claim lives in Thar as children suffer deprivation of food and water in Mithi while the relief activities in the area have not been launched by the local government.

The death toll has mounted to 288 while hundreds of other children are under treatment at various hospitals.

On the other hand, the Sindh government is resorting to mere announcements.

The drought-like situation in Tharparkar, unavailability of clean drinking water, inadequate medical facilities, shortage of doctors and paramedics has led to the high rate of deaths among children and infants.

The areas of Mithi, Diplo, Islamkot, Chhacchro, Nagarpakar and others in Tharparkar are facing a drought.
