Just last night, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) surprised the Pakistani audience as they banned actor Hamza Ali Abbasi’s Ramazan transmission. The ban was imposed over violation of the media regulator’s code of conduct as Pemra found Hamza guilty of “promoting controversial and sectarian views.”

During his show, Ishq-e-Ramzan Hamza spoke against the oppression of Ahmedis and his comments offended hard line religious personalities; one of whom — Maulana Kokab Noorani, who then harshly criticised Hamza on another Ramzan transmission aired on TV One.

After these comments, both the TV channels received numerous complaints, which then led to a ban on both Ramzan transmissions.

In the world of social media, Twitter reacted against Pemra’s decision to punish Hamza for demanding equal rights for the minorities. In the end, everyone was just disappointed.

  1. it's the Wahabi's who should be banned from all media for stating things like it's ok to beat you wife? These idiots living in barbaric pre-Islam times that are giving Islam a bad name.

  2. Like in the US constitution there is a First Amendement in which The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble, or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, as one of the ten amendments that constitute the Bill of Rights. None of the nonsense we see today would happen
