Qadri using Model Town incident for political gains: Sanaullah

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah has said the Model Town incident was being used for political gains and the prime objective behind the PAT’s sit-in was to create instability and chaos in the country.

Talking to the media outside the Punjab Assembly on Friday, the minister said that all legal and constitutional obligations were fulfilled during the investigation of the Model Town incident, but the PAT chief was misguiding the people.

He said the PAT chief through his aggressive and emotional speeches was hiding facts and making political propaganda.

The minister recalled that soon after the Model Town incident a case had been registered with the Faisal Town Police Station and on the instruction of the court, a case had also been registered against police officials and 42 PAT activists as well.

In reply to a question, Sanaullah said that the district government had been directed to ensure peaceful holding of the PAT meeting.

Separately in a statement, the law minister said that just like Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Dr Tahirul Qadri also owned multiple offshore companies.

Sanaullah said that records showed that Qadri and the members of his family owned property worth Rs 42 million in Canada, London, Belgium and Denmark.

The minister blamed that the sons and his daughters-in-law of the PAT chief were the trustees of the London trust, whereas Qadri himself was the owner of the flats and houses in London.

Sanaullah questioned who would provide answers related to dozens of offshore companies Qadri owned and asked the PAT chief to explain from where he was able to get that much money to make offshore companies and purchase properties.
