In an official notice, Pemra has directed Geo TV to broadcast the actual suicide of Dr Aamir Liaquat.
“Like much of the country, we at Pemra found his enactment of the suicides in poor taste and have decided that, instead of a fine, the appropriate punishment would be for the anchor to commit suicide on live TV,” read the notice.
“And by that, we mean a for-real suicide. Our Enforcement Unit would be on set to ensure the veracity of the event,” the notice added.
The news of this notice was met with jubilation across the country, with many breaking into dance and flocking to mosques and other places of worship.
“There is a God, there is a God,” said Riaz Ahmed Siddiqi of Nawabshah, as he walked into his neighbourhood mosque to pray his shukrana nafals.
“We immediately filed an appeal of the decision,” said Barrister Shaukat Hassan, the legal counsel of Dr Aamir Liaquat. “But they wrote back a simple No, followed by Kyun bhai, kaysa diya?”
Advertising industry experts predict that the upcoming program is going to pull the highest ratings in Pakistan’s television history.
