The opposition members in the provincial assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday slammed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government for adjourning the budget session before its scheduled time.

The assembly’s session on budget debate for the fiscal year 2016-17 continued only for six minutes as Speaker Asad Qaiser adjourned the session till Tuesday 2pm when Sardar Idrees of the PTI pointed out the quorum.

Later talking to media after the session in the opposition chamber, Leader of Opposition Maulana Lutfur Rehman, parliamentary leader of the Awami National Party, Sardar Hussain Babak and parliamentary leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Sardar Aurangzeb Nalotha and Nighat Orakzai of the Pakistan People’s Party said that the provincial government was not serious in the proceedings of the provincial assembly.

They said that the budget presented by the PTI-led coalition government was for a few districts only and they had decided to approach the court in this respect.

The opposition leaders said it would be an injustice to people of the province on part of the PTI to pass this budget, adding that the deficit of the budget during the PTI regime would reach Rs 1 trillion.

They also said the chief minister’s own cabinet members were against the budget and now CM Khattak was visiting their houses for reconciliation. The opposition said that Speaker Asad Qaiser was playing an impartial role and they were also considering bringing a “no confidence” motion against the speaker.
