BBC set to produce Muslim Big Brother reality show

The BBC has announced plans to launch a reality TV show which will follow a group of Muslims living together.

Muslims Like Us will invite 10 members of the public including Sunni, Shia and those who have recently converted to the faith, to live in a house.

The show aims to explore pluralism within British Muslim society and will feature participants from a range of different backgrounds who will engage with the local community and interact with a number of non-Muslims.

A spokesperson for the BBC said: “BBC Two and Love productions are working on a two-part series which aims to get behind the headlines and explore the full range of attitudes and beliefs in the British Muslim community today. We will announce further details in due course.”

According to Broadcast, Kieran Smith of Love Productions said: “[It is] a conscious decision to reflect pluralism within Muslim communities.

“They will live together and create what I guess is a halal environment. The challenge for them is how they negotiate with one another and how they live with one another.

“What are they eating, where are they praying, how are they praying? All of those conversations will be part of the series.”

Smith continued: “So it certainly isn’t a look at Muslims as extremists – it’s actually looking at pluralism within British Muslim society.”

Muslims Like Us is expected to air on BBC Two. A launch date is yet to be announced.
